On Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 02:00 local time, the imperialist United States (US) launched a military attack on Caracas, El Higuerote, Miranda, La Guaira, and Aragua, Venezuela. This assault was subsequently accompanied by the kidnapping of President Maduro and his wife. The attack has resulted in the deaths of at least 53 Venezuelan citizens and 27 Cuban.
US President Donald Trump has also ordered a blockade on all oil distribution entering and exiting Venezuela, revealing the true intent behind this US imperialist assault. This move represents the culmination of a series of criminal acts by US imperialists against the sovereign nation of Venezuela—a nation that has never engaged in provocation nor posed a direct military threat to the United States.
Recent US imperialist operations have included blatant piracy on the high seas, the bombing and shooting of small vessels in the Caribbean, and the massacre of Venezuelan citizens aboard these ships. The victims were almost certainly innocent fishermen. These actions also encompass the seizure of tankers transporting Venezuelan oil—seizures that equate to theft by the United States. All these operations were conducted under the pretext of eradicating Venezuelan drug gangs, culminating in the accusation of Maduro as a ‘narcoterrorist,’ despite the absence of any solid evidence to substantiate such claims.
US monopolies are attempting to impose their interests through threats, economic warfare, illegal blockades, political pressure, and brutal military force. These plans are coercive measures that not only violate sovereignty and international law but also threaten peace, stability, the right to life of the Venezuelan people, and the regional security of Latin America as a whole. These actions are the starkest manifestation of modern imperialism attempting to shackle a free nation.
Equally important, as part of the working class and people’s movement, we assert that imperialism, war, and blockades have deepened the oppression of women. The US stranglehold has long exacerbated issues regarding access to food and healthcare, increased the burden of unpaid care work, and heightened risks of sexual violence, reproductive health damage, and structural impoverishment.
War and militarism represent the most extreme manifestation of the oppression of women—a system that normalises violence, domination, and conquest. Within the framework of imperialism, women’s bodies, the bodies of the people, and nature are treated as legitimate objects to be controlled, exploited, and sacrificed for the sake of power and capital accumulation.
US imperialists have openly stated before the mass media that they are also targeting Cuba, Mexico, and Colombia. This serves as an alarm for global democracy and international law. The US imperialists are flagrantly violating Article 2, paragraph 4 of the UN Charter, which states: “All Members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any State, or in any other manner inconsistent with the Purposes of the United Nations.”
The military attack on Venezuela and these statements send a clear message that the US intends to dominate and conquer the entire continent by mercilessly punishing any government that obstructs its path. It is a method more akin to the mafia than to international peace.
Today, we must face the reality that Venezuela is a small nation in Latin America positioned at a severe disadvantage when confronting the massive military power of US imperialism. The solidarity of the working class and people worldwide is urgently needed to delegitimise this US imperialist aggression. Therefore, GEBRAK and the organisations listed in this statement declare: - Reject military intervention against Venezuela! - Free Maduro immediately! - End the US economic embargo on Venezuela! - Stop cooperation with US imperialists!
